Hey all:
I am making the move from central ny to the Sullivan County area on 2/12/09. I start my new job on 2/17.
Does anyone in that broad corner of the state shoot on the weekend? I shoot skeet and IDPA as much as possbile, so please let me know where to shoot, introduce me to a club, or have me meet up with you somewhere!
I can't wait to move, and I would love to start my first weekend off right.
Thank you all,
-Matt

welcome. I know that many in this meetup group are up there. They are not all 'freestaters' many are locals who think like us. But if you post there you will be welcomed and I do know that some of them belong to some clubs up there: http://ronpaul.meetup.com/950/

Welcome! I don't know about shooting activities in Sullivan county. About 2 hours south, there's a group that has weekly shoots (once the weather warms up): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2Az-_fYRDkIDon't forget to update your address after you get in-state so the counter can tick up.

Welcome home!
Which town will you be living in? There is a gun club in Lebanon, and some Porcs shoot occasionally in Henniker. And, of course, there is the weekly Church of John Browning every Sunday in Deerfield (may be a bit far for you).
We hope to see you at some of the local events, including weekly Taproom Tuesdays in Manchester, weekly Social Sundays in Keene, and monthly lunches in Concord and Manchester. Let us know where you are and we'll tell you more about activities and people in your area.

Yes, depending on where you will be living in Sullivan County, you might be as close as half an hour from the Firearms Church that Dale mentions. I understand that there is some kind of skeet or trapshooting place here in Grafton where we touch the north east corner of Sullivan. I'll try to find out more about it.

Thank you all for your responses. I have leads on a bunch of rental housing in all corners of Sullivan county. I came across the Grafton County Fish & Game Association through another forum, and will probably check that out this weekend. It looks like they throw skeet on Sundays.
I'll make sure to make my way down to church sometime soon. Are these religious organizations as well as groups in support of 2nd Amendment rights?
I'll update my address as soon as I get one.
Thanks again,
-Matt

Matt, Today's the 12th - did you move? This Saturday there is going to be a big party of porcupines over at Ivy's Spice of Life. It's a BYOB restaurant, and we're having a fixed price dinner that night. $13/head. Main dish choice of Brisket, Chicken with Mole Sauce, or Baked Stuffed Zucchini (for the vegetarians among us). Soup choice of Reverend's Hellfire Chili, Ivy's Northern Chili, or Tortilla Soup. Vegetable choice of Calabacita, Corn on the Cob, or small salad. Dinner comes with sides of Mexican Rice and Beans. Mark Warden is treating for dessert which will be frosted cupcakes for all. You should come and meet some folks! My husband will be happy to have another IDPA shooter around, I'm sure! Ivy SORRY of course: start time around 7pm.

For you Yankees, calabazita means squash, in this case it's likely butternut squash. Warning: if you order the mole dish, don't wear white! In Mexico, it is widely known that mole sauce (a non-sweet, chocolate-based sauce, usually brown but sometimes reddish) has a reputation for splashing on your plate, sending droplets to stain nearby white linens, including your shirt/blouse. Buen provecho!

LOL true, I should interpret what I'm saying, eh? Actually calabacita as a dish is a mixed vegetable blend. It's main ingredient is usually squash (I use some zucchini and yellow squash both), and also has corn and bell peppers and onion and garlic. Warning: if you order the mole dish, don't wear white! Buen provecho! I'll get Mark a bib! hehehe

Are these religious organizations as well as groups in support of 2nd Amendment rights? We just call it church because it usually happens on Sunday. Most of us at church (but not all) seem to be shameless heathens when it comes to religion.

I moved on schedule. Living out of a suitecase at a B&B for the time being. I'll see everyone at Ivy's on Saturday. I'll be the guy mispronouncing everything with a funny accent.
