Speech has allowed the communication of ideas, enabling human beings to work together to build the impossible. Mankind's greatest achievements have come about by talking, and its greatest failures by not talking. It doesn't have to be like this. Our greatest hopes could become reality in the future. With the technology at our disposal, the possibilities are unbounded. All we need to do is make sure we keep talking.  -Stephen Hawking

I wish Mary Ruwart would join the FSP and make the move. She sounded very interested in her interview on FTL.

I'm hoping the surprise is Naomi Wolf.

The surprise is the hotel is going to profusely apologize to Sakal CAI's Jason Osborne for their shittiness to him last year and promptly offer to comp him the penthouse suite for the entire weekend!

Perhaps he rubs people the wrong way?  Or does things that annoy establishment types.  Or doesn't easily back down when the establishment types start getting pushy.  Or because of his relatively high profile (sponsor, tent, etc.) he's an easy target.  Or maybe it's just bad luck / wrong place at the wrong time.

I don't know Jason, and I don't know the circumstances involving his run-ins with the hotel or with Gunstock -- so I'm just speculating.  But surely what I've speculated is more likely than an anti-Jason conspiracy by the proprietors of the Nashua Crowne Plaza and Gunstock resort!  Grin

By no means am I implying that is the case. I'm just curious. Jason's only done a few things on any of the forums I've seen that would indicate he might be annoying, but then everyone does at some point. I'm wondering if there's a side of Jason that only shows in person, or more likely, someone who has a grudge and likes to cause trouble for him. I've seen it happen before.

I think the lizard people are out to get me.

Seriously, I doubt the Crowne Plaza is out to get me personally. Likely, what I experienced to some degree was just piss poor service and to some other degree a result of particularly flamboyant individuals I happened to be associating with at the time. At any rate, it was extremely unpleasant and I do not continue to associate with business or individual entities that treat me poorly. If the gas station attendant kicks me in the nads when I go to fill up my tank, whatever the reason, I'm not going to go back there.
