Liberty Associate needed
« on: November 08, 2007, 10:58:56 pm »

I would like to talk to a Liberty Associate; I've been looking into becoming one, but I have a few questions about how the discount/commission works.

First person to PM me their e-mail address gets to refer me should I choose to sign up.  If you PM me and I don't reply, please just assume someone else contacted me first.

Thanks in advance.

I checked it out, but I didn't find all answers I was looking for.  Thanks for the link anyhow.

However, I think I figured out most of the answers the hard way.

The only thing I'm not sure about is how the 'commission' works.

The only thing I'm not sure about is how the 'commission' works.

For years there was a discount. You purchased $20 in face value ALD but only paid maybe $18 in FRNs. That meant that when you used it at face value to buy something, it essentially cost less. That means you get a small profit by using the currency.

A couple months ago the national office changed to a commission model instead of the discount. When you purchase $20 in face value ALD, you pay $20 in FRNs but get $22 in face value ALD. You still profit, but at initial purchase time instead of at usage time.

(numbers above for illustration purposes only - not intended to be accurate)

The change is expected to help quell the bogus charges of "but you only paid X for it so why should I accept it at X+Y?". It might also help with legal issues, but I'm not sure on that.

I'm glad to hear they did away with the discount equation.  Seems to me with the volatility of the spot price it could make for drastic changes in purchase price from day to day.

The commission makes much more sense, and is much easier to keep track of.  I do wonder: how often does the commission rate change (and by how many points)?

Also, how do you go about getting LDs?  Is there a local distributor (I think the website calls them RCOs), or are they shipped from the mint/warehouse?  If they are shipped, what sort of shipping fees should one expect?

Are there minimum order requirements?

I would also like to talk to you about your experience using LDs.  If you're willing, PM me your phone number and a time I can reach you (preferably on the weekend - my long distance calls are free Sat & Sun).

I'm a LA.

It's change is based on the price of silver, because the price at which Liberty Services buys the silver changes. You can always see the amount on the Liberty Dollar home page, its in the red box at the top of the site. It also posts the exchange rate for ALD to USD.

You can order online, that's what I have to do since my RCO had a stroke and isn't participating anymore. In an online order, they are shipped from the warehouse. Liberty Services, only buys the silver, owns the dies, and audits the warehouse. The Sunshine Mint mines the silver, sells the silver, and warehouses the silver.

You can see what your shipping fees are before you purchase. Its great because you can maximize your purchase for the shipping rate, which is what I have to do. Alaska is expensive to ship to. I have to buy at least $100 in Silver Liberties to make it worth the $3.50 shipping. Oh, and my commission for that order today is $2.65. Of course I can get $320 Silver Liberty Certificates for the same $3.50 and earn $11.60 on that order.

I believe in being honest and upfront with people. I've never been asked if I make a commission but I'd readily answer honestly about it. I believe that we need to be up front with people, because the other system isn't honest with us.

You can go back and forth at the checkout screen, just make sure if you change a quanity that you update the cart.

Not on the website. Buy 1, by 1000. Its all the same process.

I'm willing to talk open and public with anyone who want wants to talk about the Liberty Dollar. PM me if you are interested and I'll tell you what I know.

Ron, how has your luck been with silver certificates? Any tips on how to approach people with these?

Thanks for the offer, but I was hoping to get an idea of the atmosphere in NH.

I know in this part of CA they wouldn't go over well.  Here, I'm constantly questioned about my $2 FRNs.  I'm hoping NH would be a better environment.

I have noticed a lot more willingness to accept it here.

We are working on an organized campaign here. NH specific marketing materials (pamphlets, business cards, tip sheets, etc). Advertising. Website. Contracts for merchants...

I just sent out our first newsletter today, with a notice about a NH wide organizational meeting this Friday:

Y'all really just need to get here and get to work. I'm tired of debatatarianism, I'm all about getting stuff done these days.
