Hi Mark.  I do like your idea of having showings of Lux Lurcre's video.  I'm not sure about which format would work, but I'm sure we could find out.  I do know that you can show videos, and that many people have tv's in their homes.  When you get set up in Second Life, send me a message to remind me about that idea.  I'm busy working on things in preparation of the event on the 16th so I might not be able to follow up on that right now.

Klaus, sorry I won't be much help on the avatar customization end.  When you see my avatar you will understand.  I do have a few free avatars I could give you, but no amish oufits. Smiley  I'll try and send a few things to your profile which you will receive next time you log into SL.   Also, if things go according to plan, there will be a free avatar available on the event that resembles a certain prickly animal, but no promises yet.  Another thing to do would be just fly around or go to a sandbox (an area where you can experiment building things), and ask people where they got their avatars and/or accessories.  Tell them you want to spruce up for the upcoming Free State Project event.  Feign shock that they haven't heard of it, and invite them to join the Free State Project group if they show interest.

Plans for the event are shaping up, and it should be a good time.  I have the help of a Second Life Services company, wishfarmers.com.   For some reason they are tactfully guiding me away from the porcupine petting zoo which was an earlier idea I had.   Instead we are talking about creating a bus with the FSP theme.  It will be a flying bus, possibly a double-decker with an open upper level which will afford a good view as it flies around Second Life.  I must agree that I like this idea better.

This week I hope also to hang out in Second Life and listen to Free Talk Live during their broadcast times.  For now I will just plan to be in-world during the hours of their show and have their show tuned in.  I purchased a phone today in Second Life, which will represent a FTL hotline so those of us who are listening from SL can call in if we are so inspired.

If you want to join me, look me up.  My name is Ray Bock.  Instant message me and I will teleport you to my location.  I will probably be hanging out in a sandbox somewhere with my Gadsden flag and my FTL hotline phone.  Maybe later we can build a proper FTL listening lounge or coffee shop.  All in good time.

Alright, against my better judgement, I created an account and fumbled around a bit. I'm Denis2112 Burbclave in SL.
Mostly I just want to help create the "FSP Cafe" (where people can listen to streaming FTL and ATG live), see cool videos like Lux Lucre's, and maybe pick up some KFPs and FSP goodies.

For those fans of the TV series Firefly and the movie Serenity, here's a picture of me sitting in the cockpit of the Serenity.  In Second Life, of course:

There is a blog post about the build here:

Also, welcome to SL Denis!

So Jason tell us more about sprucing up our avatars.  I feel so, well, plain.  Perhaps I should get an Amish outfit...
So I broke down and made myself an account and spent about 20 minutes walking around.
I did upload a really cheesy "FSP Lounge suit" outfit. It's nowhere as good as Jason's, but I wanted something I could literally slap together in 2 minutes or less. It's pretty simple, you upload an image, then go to the "Edit Appearance" menu, click "shirt", and set the shirt's image to your uploaded image.

I've got free t-shirts with the FSP logo on it, and will be in-world from around 7 tonight ET.  I'm going to be listening to Free Talk Live while I look around for land or a place I can rent and open a cafe.  If anyone want to join me, please look me up:  Ray Bock.

Free State Project group member Gimme Castro has purchased some land and a house now in Second Life.  It's at Sagwa 142, 241, 36.  As I speak, he's busy adjusting the front step and he says he's also working on some other FSP adornments.  He's also said that anyone who would like to stop by for a visit is welcome, and has graciously offered his pad as a place to hang out even if he's not home.

A picture is here:

If you have Second Life installed, you can also teleport directly to this house by clicking on the link below the picture.

Gimme Castro is doing a bang-up job creating a space for liberty lovers to hang out in.  Here's a picture of him pointing to a newly created Free Talk Live Hotline sign.  The sign links to the Free Talk Live website, so any visitors who are curious are only one click from more info.  Gimme has created a similar Free State Project sign at the front door, which links to the FSP website.

Last night a few of us were in SL listening to FTL, and I will be there again tonight 7-10 ET.  Join us!   You can find the pad by searching for 'Free State' under 'places' then teleport.  Or, IM in Second Life.  My in-game name is Ray Bock.

Gimme Castro has his land now set up with Free Talk Live streaming in during their regular show hours M-Sat 7-10 ET.  This means that anyone who wanders into the land will hear the show without even going to the FTL website.  I called into the show last night while listening from SL, and I would encourage other FTL listeners to do the same.  Make sure you mention where you're calling from to help get the word out!  Our event us coming up quickly on Sept 16th, and the more the merrier.  If you've been thinking about checking out SL, now's the time.  You can satisfy your curiosity and help get us exposure at the same time.

I won't be there tonight, but do plan to be there Fri and Sat night during the show.

We had a great turn out last night in Second Life during and after the FTL show.  We had a consistent crowd of between 4 and 8 with avatars dropping in and out.
I took a little break at midnight, went skydiving, met some other friends, and when I got back the party was still going!  It is great to see that I'm no longer needed!

The Free State Project group is up to 28 now.  I expect that we will be getting a lot more FTL listeners now that Ian and several of the other FTL crew have their own avatars and have seen first hand what a powerful medium this can be.  We watched a few videos of civil disobedience in NH, got silly with sparklers, guns, and other toys, talked about some ideas for things to develop in SL, etc.

One week from today is our event.  That's Saturday, Sept 16th.   The party will really start around 7 ET, but come by any time you can make it.

We have our own sim (that's about 16 acres of land in SL) reserved for us which we can start setting up on the 14th.  It will accomodate a lot more avatars than the small piece of land that Gimme Castro has purchased.  This is not a highly structured event, but if anyone would like to make a presentation about a liberty oriented organization they are involved with, please get in touch.

You can play media files...? Cool!
Is Flash supported? If not, I have an MPG of the "Philosophy of Freedom" from ISIL, I believe that should be running 24x7 somewhere if at all possible...

Lastly, are there any easy instructions for how to teleport to Castro's anti-Communist/FTL hangout?

Thanks guys!!

I just watched the Flash version of Philosophy of Liberty on the video screen at the GIMME LIBERTY BAR. That's the name that Gimme just came up with for his hangout.  Since it is his private land, I think this is good to make clear that this is not an official FSP clubhouse, but supporters of the FSP and liberty are all welcome.  We will be creating a direct link soon.

yeah it is pretty surreal that you are watching avatars watch a movie that is real life.

Here's a picture of my avatar watching "The Philosophy of Liberty" at the "Gimme Liberty Bar".  Below the picture is a link which will teleport you directly there (if you have SL installed).

Anyone who would like to check out Second Life during our event this Saturday, Sept 16th, is welcome to stop by here in Plymouth NH, mingle with Free Staters and the generally curious, and any press that might be showing up.  We will be at A-Bit Computer Systems.  The owner has graciously offered his shop as a community service.  It is at 11 Railroad Square, off Main St. in Plymouth.  Unfortunately, the road is not marked well, but if you go South on Main St, the road cuts left down a hill just after Subway.  At the bottom of the hill there is a white sign for the shop on the roof: "A-Bit Computer Systems".  We will have a popcorn machine courtesy of Rand's Harware here in Plymouth NH (my dad's business).  There will be no alcohol.  (The Stormhoek wine event will happen later, but that's a whole nother story)

Anyone who would like to stop by is welcome.  We have wireless available here, so if you have a laptop with Second Life installed, please bring it.  There will also be a number of desktop computers set up with Second Life (and maybe There) for people to try.  You are welcome to come any time after 5pm.  The phone number at the store is 603 238 2589.

The other location for our mixed reality party (in NH) is in Amherst, at the Tall Pines Center.  I will have more information on their capacity soon.
