One of many reasons why I won't be working on the next incarnation of First 1000; this is a lovely response I received to yesterday's mailing, which went out ONLY to people who have ALREADY signed the pledge: What a fucking loser you are. Quit emailing me, you sack of useless shit.
God I love my volunteer job.

God I love my volunteer job. Sandy, if you "accidently" leaked the name/email of that person, rest assured, someone would teach him a lesson.

You probably shouldn't answer this, but was it that saboteur-ish sort of fellow (that I won't name), who, for some unknown reason, signed the F1K pledge?

neither of you should answer this, but has this person been in a personal conflict with Seth in the past? (yeah I know that does not narrow it down )

I have put more time into campaigns and recruiting than most people, but I don't get taken seriously by a few people on this list. I have taken three months off of work this fall just to help out on campaigns. The fact that I haven't been high profile about it causes a lot of fellow freestaters to dismiss what I've done.
Max, I was aware you were working on campaigns. And I applaud that... Fine, and dandy, but that wasn't _my_ point: criticizing _FSP_ activities is valued when you are also doing _FSP_ volunteerism. Campaigning, as important as it is, isn't FSP work. Apples and Oranges. Denis, Sandy, Dreepa, and others do both...  There are plenty of things the FSP needs doing... we're understaffed all the time... As I said, I've put a lot of time into recruiting. Every time I've gone out of state (about two-three times a year) I talk with other people about the FSP. Other union members, coworkers, family, and people I've run into have heard me make the pitch for moving. I've been doing this actively for over three years--even before the vote. How do you know what I have or have not done? I was one of the first 50 movers. I remember attending MVP meetings with just six people at Milly's. I've contacted the LP of Washington state in an effort to recruit more members. I've met up with folks all over NH to encourage their involvement in the effort, and have been helping potential movers find jobs, residence, or colleges here to transfer to. I filed as a candidate for state representative this year, but had my filing thrown out on a technicality by the city. You are telling me that I have not helped out in FSP recruiting. I've done more than almost anyone (obviously Joel Winters and Dave Mincin have done more than I have), but I get flamed anyway for not doing enough. --Max

We're in need of volunteers to help out with Freedom Expo. PM one of the organizers (like me) if you'd like to help. "The Free State Project is an agreement among 20,000 pro-liberty activists to move to New Hampshire, where they will exert the fullest practical effort toward the creation of a society in which the maximum role of government is the protection of life, liberty, and property." Freedom Expo is at Trinity Parish House, Seabrook, April 27, 2013! (right next to the Post Office)

You are telling me that I have not helped out in FSP recruiting.
No, I am specifically talking about FSP volunteering, NOT recruiting. Ideally we should have 100s of volunteers, and 1000s of recruiters. Our lack of volunteers is the FSP's biggest direct problem... most of the rest stems from that (including recruitment slowdown) Please don't confuse the 3: campaigning, recruitment, and volunteering. The first is non-FSP, the 2nd is FSP promoting, but the 3rd is what keeps the FSP alive as an organization. Criticizing the actions of the FSP if you aren't actively volunteering is the least likely to make any difference, yet sadly, it's the most common critics who do it. As I said, you've complains about the state vote, about first 1000, etc... and yes, you do stuff, but my point is that you aren't helping the org to do something different, just complaining about it. Friday (to pick one good example) was quite vocal about complaining in the past about certain issues, but she was also active and involved, and now she is part of the organization leadership so she is now in the hot seat herself.

Hi all, I have a website that gets between 15,000 and 20,000 hits per day, and I'd gladly put a small First 1000 ad there gratis. I'm not sure you want me to, though... my site is a BitTorrent filesharing site where people share movies and music, and a lot of people take a dim view of that kind of activity. In defense of my site and its users, we only allow material that is independent, unusual, rare, or old, and although I think the Digital Millennium Copyright Act is a misguided piece of, um, legislation, we do comply with it, and that makes us legal. Here's my site: http://www.secret-cinema.comOh, and before anyone flames me for running a torrent site: if you think I'm an evil pirate because I run a filesharing site, ask me why I don't consider myself an evil pirate before you launch into your tirade. I might just change your mind. Arrrrr!

sounds good to me... go to http://freestateproject.org/flash_banners for a neat flash one, or take a standard one... I dunno if we have a good non-flash F1K banner ad... ask me why I don't consider myself an evil pirate before you launch into your tirade. I might just change your mind. Arrrrr!
Arrrr... matey... from one pirate to another.

I'm not against it. I think that any exposure is good exposure. The more people who know about the FSP, the more activists will move.

Now I really don't know what you're talking about. I have put hundreds of hours into the FSP, and I have been proposing ideas that I think will help. I tend to get flamed as soon as I suggest something, and you are one who does a lot of the flaming. Perhaps you don't understand what I am suggesting. I'd like to keep things positive, but the coldness of the Net makes posts seem more negative than the reader may have intended. --Max
