I think the 400 already in NH includes about 250 who aren't eligible to sign the first 1000 (people who were already living in NH).  I could be all wet, but that's my impression anyway.  From what I understand, those people are being contacted and persuaded to join.  One early mover is making it his pet project to hassle people until they join.  Wink  One hard core holdout agreed to join the First 1000 at Porcfest.  Libertarians tend to be quirky people, (I include myself in that assessment), so they have a variety of reasons for not joining the First 1000.  Sometimes if you joke with them about their reason, they will soften and agree to join.  Smiley

I totally understand that.  Most days, I feel like the LP is a little too organized and official for me.

As for people who are already in NH, I think that you are right.  The relevant language from the petition is:

All current FSP participants are urged to pledge to an early move. And those who have already moved (since 10/1/03) are also eligible for inclusion.

Good times,

Spencer

Woah... lotta discussion here.  Thanks Sandy for pointing me here.  I'm swamped this week, but here's the short version:

1:  We *do* need to pick up the pace on First 1000.

2:  There are two big untapped markets (new participants and existing participants)

3:  We need to more effectively tap both markets.

4:  Phone calls *have* been discussed for the existing participants.

5:  I think it's too early to start actually making calls, *but* it's not too early to start assembling the teams to do it.

6:  We should be smart about how we do it.  That includes probably asking for donations and maybe sharing some timely information, too.  We need to develop a script.

Okay, everyone look busy.... Smiley

Thanks again Sandy!  The phone idea was going to be in the last corner but it was too full. It'll be in the next one along with LP info.  My Porc Fest review is written but not posted yet.  I *think* I'll have some time either tomorrow (thursday from where I sit) or Friday to get to all that.  (I hope I hope I hope)

How are you calculating this, Ian?  I have been tracking the progress closely for over a month now, and it seems to me that signups have been quite steady.  We need about 3 signups a day to reach the goal; and that's what we've been getting.   Smiley

I was going by this:

http://www.pledgebank.com/First1000/info

According to that, we're not even close.

That webpage bases its projection on the last week, which in my opinion is not particularly useful.  If you go by the week before, or the week before that, or the week before that, we're doing just fine.

FYI, the signups from last weekend's LP National Convention, which Morey posted about here: http://forum.freestateproject.org/index.php?topic=12121.0
are being mailed to me and haven't been added to the pledge yet.

Chris, Caleb, Denis, Ian, and others willing to help accelerate the rate of F1K pledge signups, I invite you to join the F1K Yahoo group: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/First1000/  On Saturday, the Board approved divvying out phone numbers to trained volunteers for purposes of merciless harassment  getting biblical with courteously inquiring as to whether FSP participants would please be so kind as to sign the pledge.  Further details will be posted to the Yahoo group.   Smiley

The time has come. Kiss the Blarney Stone, have a shot of "courage", repeat positive affirmations to yourself in the mirror, and do whatever else it takes to prepare yourself to sell First 1000! Then please email or IM me with the following information:

* your phone number
* hours you can be reached
* an estimate of how many phone calls you are willing to make. 10? 50? 100? Let me know. You should be hearing from Varrin some time next week with guidance as to how to be a courteous and smooth-talking salesperson.

There will be a pizza party at a time and place TBD in the Free State, for all phone tree volunteers. Those of you who don't live in the Free State, well, geez... what are you waiting for? ;-)

Thank you all very much for your willingness to help reach our goal of 999 pledge signers by the end of the year!  Smiley

I suggested elsewhere that we extend the pledge to the end of next year.  Someone else suggested that I put up a new pledge, but allow NH residents to sign up also.

What does everyone think?

We're in need of volunteers to help out with Freedom Expo.  PM one of the organizers (like me) if you'd like to help.
"The Free State Project is an agreement among 20,000 pro-liberty activists to move to New Hampshire, where they will exert the fullest practical effort toward the creation of a society in which the maximum role of government is the protection of life, liberty, and property." Freedom Expo is at Trinity Parish House, Seabrook, April 27, 2013! (right next to the Post Office)

Changing an existing pledge is Bad.
Making a new pledge is Good.
