... I'd take advantage of the amnesty in the new immigration bill...

Could someone point me towards some more information regarding the details of this bill?

Thanks much.  Smiley

I think StraitShooter was being facetious. No bill has actually been passed, due to conflicts between the House of Representatives and Senate. Here is a link to each of the versions the 2 houses have tentatively passed:
http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/custom/2006/05/26/CU2006052600148.html

What you are looking for is under "Policy affecting immigrants" in the Senate bill.

BTW, Europe has a Free State Project (or did at one point, anyway). The idea there is to choose a nation, rather than a state in the US sense, but the principles are very similar otherwise. Why not start a Free Province Project in Canada? It would be great to have 2 similar entities harassing and frustrating centralized authoritarians on both sides of the border!

Not all is perfect with Canada and the new Conservative Government, but things ARE, indeed, improving.  I expect they will get a majority come the next federal election, and then we can see some real beneficial change for Canada.  I fully expect to see an actual reduction in the sixe of government under Harper.

Canada finally has an actual *leader* not just a wind-sock puppet.  Overall, I'm optimistic.

I hope things work out better for you than they did for us in the U.S. with the "conservative" Republicans in power. The only good news for us is that in some states (New Hampshire included, of course) we can still carry guns. Unfortunately, these are of limited effectiveness against the tanks and jet bombers we now have pointed at us.

Would be a cool idea... except we'd wind up with either Alberta or trying to completely take over PEI. And c'mon man, it's *Alberta*. Make room, I'm comin' South...

You should put it to a vote after you get your 1st X number of members as we put it to a vote after we got our 1st 5,000. 2 states we had considered were Idaho and Montana, so if the FSP ever got successful enough that we could start a second Free State (well, we can dream can't we? Smiley) we could have 2 free territories bordering each other.

It is too bad that New Hampshire's northern neighbor, Quebec, is in many ways diametrically opposed to the FSP. I do think, though, that free territorialists on both sides of the border should support Quebecois independence. For you it would mean a chance to spin off a province that pulls your national politics toward socialism; for us it could potentially mean a chance to border a nation that would support our non-cooperation with the U.S. Feds.
