The Vans Warped Tour has invited us to promote the Free State Project at dozens of cities across the United States! The Vans Warped Tour is a traveling festival that hops around North America every summer with over 70 rock/punk/metal bands. There is a special non-profit tent where various groups, like the FSP, are allowed to set up tables for free. FSP volunteers gave out flyers, stickers, and even FSP matchbooks to thousands of music fans in 2005. Daniel Patrick managed FSP volunteers in Atlanta, Lloyd Danforth handled Northampton Mass, Bryan Stevenson took care of Virginia Beach, and I helped in Buffalo and Pittsburgh. Everyone reported having a good time! We already know the cities and dates for the 2006 Vans Warped Tour. Supplies are already being made and ordered. We need just one more thing; volunteers! All volunteers will get free entrance to the venue, tons of supplies to pass out, plenty of water, any needed training, and the opportunity to promote the powerful idea of liberty in our lifetime at the to hundreds of music vans. Feel free to bring someone with you, even if they are not a FSP member. Let's try to have at least three volunteers at twenty different venues (four times as many as last year) in 2006! If you would like to help with one of the Vans Warped Tour stops, or know someone that does, post a comment, PM me, or send an email to warpedtour@freestateproject.org More info about volunteering- We have to get approval from the Vans Warped Tour for each individual stop on the tour. Before we ask them about a stop, we need at least 2 100% committed volunteers or 4 mostly committed volunteers. Links: http://www.warpedtour.comhttp://freestateproject.org/news/fspnews/mar06.htmlIt basically works like this: -show up at the venue and meet up with the other volunteers around 9 AM -do not dress like a prep or square -activities include talking to other venders before the venue opens, working the table, walking around and handing out flyers, posting flyers all over the bathrooms, maybe chalking outside the ticket line and exit, and handing out flyers as people leave -may leave around 5:30 PM, continue with activism, or listen to music until 8:30 PM The breakdown of the stops by color with additional info. strike through = cannot have tableblue = already confirmedgreen = some interestblack = no interest yet Venues: 6/15 Columbia, MD Merriweather Post Pavillion 6/16 Columbus, OH Germain Amphitheater 6/17 Milwaukee, WI Marcus Amphitheater 6/18 Minneapolis, MN Hub.H.Humphrey Metrodome 6/19 Kansas City, MO Verizon Wireless 6/21 Nashville, TN Starwood Amphitheater 6/22 Jacksonville, FL Jacksonville Fairgrounds 6/23 Saint Petersburg, FL Vinoy Park the supplies did not make it in time 6/24 Miami, FL Bicentennial Park the supplies did not make it in time 6/25 Orlando, FL Tinker Field 6/26 Ladson , SC Exchange Park Fairgrounds 6/27 Raleigh, NC Alltel Pavillion at Walnut Creek 6/28 Atlanta, GA Hi Fi Buys Amphitheater The LP of GA table will give out a stack of FSP bookmarks ( http://freestateproject.org/images/bookmark.jpg ) 6/30 Houston, TX Reliant Center 7/1 Dallas, TX Smirnoff Music Centre 7/2 San Antonio, TX Verizon Wireless Amphitheater 7/3 Las Cruces, NM New Mexico State University 7/4 Phoenix, AZ Cricket Pavilion[/color] 7/6 San Diego, CA Coors Amphitheater 7/7 Pomona, CA LA County Fairgrounds 7/8 San Francisco, CA Pier 30/32 7/9 Fresno, CA Selland Arena 7/11 Ventura, CA Seaside Park 7/12 Los Angeles, CA Dodger Stadium 7/13 Sacramento (Marysville), CA Sleep Train Amphitheater 7/14 Boise, ID Treasure Valley Speedway 7/15 Seattle, WA Gorge Amphitheater 7/16 Portland, OR Columbia Meadows 7/18 Vancouver, BC 7/20 Calgary, AB 7/22 Salt Lake City, UT Utah State Fairpark 7/23 Denver, CO Invesco Field at Mile High 7/25 St. Louis, MO UMB Bank Pavilion need volunteers 7/26 Cincinnatii, OH Riverbend Music Center 7/27 Pittsburgh, PA Post-Gazette Pavilion 7/28 Indianapolis, IN Verizon Wireless Amphitheater 7/29 Detroit, MI Comerica Lot/ Woodward Avenue We don't have a table but a volunteer will hand out 100 flyers 7/30 Tinley Park, IL Tweeter Center Chicago need volunteers 8/1 Buffalo, NY Darien Lake PAC need volunteers 8/2 Fitchburg, MA Fitchburg Airport need volunteers 8/3 Philadelphia, PA Tweeter Center need volunteers 8/4 Scranton, PA Toyota Pavilion need volunteers 8/5 Uniondale, NY Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum need volunteers 8/6 Old Bridge, NJ Englishtown Raceway need volunteers 8/8 Charlotte, NC Verizon Wireless Amphitheatre 8/9 Virginia Beach, VA Verizon Wireless Amphitheater need volunteers 8/10 Bristow, VA Nissan Pavillion at Stone Ridge need volunteers 8/11 Cleveland, OH Tower City Amphitheater 8/12 Barrie, ON Park Place (Molson Park) We don't have a table but a volunteer will hand out 100 flyers  8/13 Montreal, QC Parc Jean Drapeau

It's probably too late now, but for next year Ozzfest might be a good option. And not just for the pro-pot population either 8-).

It's frustrating that many of these shows take place on weekdays. That's very limiting for some volunteers.

Well, so am I! But I only have ten days of PTO in a year. What with PorcFest, going to Concord about various New Hampshire bills, and spending one week in California so my aging mother doesn't forget what I look like, that doesn't leave a lot left over. Actually, it leaves nothing left over. Let's hope I don't get the flu, or anything else, this year.

It being a Sunday, I can probably help with the Old Bridge, NJ venue. I'd be bringing my shooting earmuffs, as I am very much not a big time fan of punk and metal. Or the crap you kids are miscalling rock these days.

Do we have any stats on how effective our efforts were at Vans last year?

Since I'm moving to NH next month, I could probably help out with the MA stop.

Guiness Chick, thanks for stepping up!
NHBound is normally very quick about follow up (unlike, for example, me) so I'm not sure what happened here. Maybe your messages were inadvertently caught up in a spam filter. Anyway, I'm sure he will respond soon.
Thanks again, and welcome to the forum!

The short version is that I messed up. The long version is that someone posted this thread to the Warped Tour Forum and I got tons of emails from people that had no idea what the FSP was but wanted free tickets to the Warped Tour. Helping them out would go against the agreement I made with the Warped Tour and my conscious so I deleted all of them and correct the message on the Warped Tour Forum.  I got a 2nd email from Guinness Chick but I waited until school ended to answer my email unless it was a top priority (like school or work related). Anyway, I updated the top post with further information so now this thread answers most of the questions that someone like Guinness Chick would have.

I would be interested in setting up a caravan for the North East dates. Is anyone traveling from any of the dates from 8/1 to 8/7 to any of the other dates? Is anyone else interested in this idea? And does anyone have ideas for lodging? I'm fine with crashing on someone’s floor in any of these areas.
