Misconceptions by western people about the East
« on: January 02, 2003, 01:25:20 pm »

These are actual posts from FSP people, unedited, and NOT taken out of context.  I swear that I am not making them up.

The place where government and media are concentrated, i.e. DC & NYC,
and the surrounding areas of DC.

I firmly believe, given available info, that the FSP is not likely
to be allowed to get off the ground in the east.

The federal government, particularly since 9/11
does what it wants concerning the eastern seaboard in particular (it has
mostly left the rest of the country alone) and calls it "homeland
security"

Liberal thought is so pervasive on the east coast that even some so
called free-staters can succumb to its effects.  The only solution is
to get as far away from the source of the problem as possible.  Just
one more reason to go west.

Urban Couch Potatoes may be completely comfortable there, as long as
the Cable TV is working and the War on Some Drugs is ended, but I
could never feel Free.
Knowing this about myself, I won't make a pledge to move to the
eastern Urban areas. There simply isn't enough room for Freedom.

Seriously, though, it is my firm belief that there's no way in hell that the
FSP will be able to overcome the prevailing socialistic way of thinking that
infests Eastern states. (Yes, including New Hampshire.

This is all you guys have been able to come up with?
Does it take a westerner to volunteer misconceptions for both sides?

*  The East is humid and rust prone. Smiley
*  The East is wall to wall people. Smiley
*  The East is old and moldy. Smiley

There's A race of men that don't fit in,
A race that can't stay still;
So they break the hearts of kith and kin,
And they roam the world at will.

Actual quotes from friends of mine who are first time visitors to NH from the west:

"It's SOOOO green here"
"There's no smog!!!"
"Where are the factories???"
"Wow, I flushed the toilet and I got such a REAL flush, I was scared I'd get sucked in!"
"Where'd you get all the women?"
"I haven't seen a single black helicopter."
"Shit, was THAT a rain storm?? I thought I'd melt away."
"I thought NH was just a parking lot for Massachusetts"
"WOW, you can buy booze right along the interstate?!?"
