If last year was any indication, there ought to plenty of firearms to shoot.
Cramming the schedule with daily shooting events helped raise people's awareness to the fact that there is an adequate free shooting range just down the road from the campsite, and so many people expressed enthusiastic interest in bringing firearms to PF'06.

Unless you have something special to bring, I would recommend saving any money involved in transporting, transferring, or purchasing firearms for targets, ammunition, and incidentals (target stands, tape, staples, etc) once you get there. Smiley

If anyone has a shot timer, chronograph, or any other specialty equipment, please bring it along!
The majority of shooting events are informal, so if you have a shooting event that you'd like to run, PLEASE contact me or the PF'06 event planners to tell them so!  We can use as many people to coordinate events, procure equipment (targets, stands, ammo), give rides, give instruction, and act as Range Safety Officers as possible!

I thought about bringing my rifle to do some practice shooting as well, but I seriously don't want to go through the hassle of trying to get it on the plane and all the TSA bs I'd go through.

It's not a big deal. I know people who check firearms every time they fly (and they fly a lot!)

TSA pretty well has its act together from recent reports. (Well... so far as checking firearms is concerned.) The airline people at the check-in counter sometimes have to be educated, though.

Scroll down here for a list of links about flying with firearms:

http://www.packing.org/airlines/

Check this page for updates, and print it out before flying:

http://www.tsa.gov/public/display?content=09000519800ac232

Then do the same with your airline's rules for checking firearms.

Unless some force greater than my own will requires my presence elsewhere, I'll be on the Mt. Liberty hike this year... Smiley

Along with Varrin, candidate for Governor Richard Kahn has made a commitment to join us on 6/23.

Since the mountain can hold at least 200 Porcupines, signing up in advance is not required. However if you wish to inform us of your intentions, we would be interested.

Hey Michael....luv ya dude...but I quit smoking D

Great news, Dave! Your lungs are probably in good shape by now.

Why not at least attempt the Mt. Liberty challenge? No need to make it to the top. As with building liberty, the path and the successes along the way are what counts.

It's a terrific opportunity within a gorgeous setting to meet new Porcs and get to know others better with no extra charge for the exercise!

That guy who almost walked to P'fest the year before last, drove, hit the moose, can handle that program.

Oh man...I remember that guy...Yikes. He had a tough week.

All are welcome to come on The Third Annual Mt. Liberty Hike on Friday 23 June. There's no requirement you hike all the way to the summit.

What they're saying about the Mt. Liberty hike:
"I tell ye true: [Mt.] Liberty is the best of all things."
--William Wallace

"[Mt.] Liberty is always dangerous, but it is the safest thing we have."
--H.E. Fosdick

"Life without [Mt.] Liberty is like a body without a spirit."
--Kahlil Gibran

"[Mt.] Liberty means freedom from government."
--Ludwig von Mises

"Dear is Country, but [Mt.] Liberty is dearer still."
--Latin proverb
