Hello, I'm new to the FSP, not sure if I'm going to join yet though. I'm pretty convinced, but I've still got to sell the whole idea to my wife. Anyway, I've been interested in US history lately, particularly in context of the liberty movement. Has anybody read any good books, either biography or your general history focused books? Any suggestions are welcome.

Please still join as a friend and sign up for the newsletter, https://secure.freestateproject.org/joinFriend.jspA website called Lewrockwell.com has a book list of books that are currently popular with libertarians. The list is here, http://www.lewrockwell.com/orig3/bestsellers.htmlI recently bought one of the books, The Politically Incorrect Guide to American History by Thomas E. Woods Jr., and I have enjoyed it. Also, the FSP store has a list of books (many of them written by members) that are sold at Amazon.com. See, http://freestateproject.org/getinvolved/store/books.phpIf you do buy a book, keep in mind that the FSP gets commissions if you click on the link for the book on the FSP book page. The rates are Laissez Faire Books (LFB) (20% FSP commission) and Amazon.com (4% FSP commission). I hope that helps.

I am rereading a book entitled "Rule by Secrecy" by Jim Marrs. It is an excellent book that goes a long way toward explaining why governments tend to get out of hand, why we have the Federal Reserve, federal income tax, and involvement in the United Nations. This is one of the best books I've ever read, and will break down any faith you have left in the two party system. Ron Paul (R-TX) explains many of the same ideas mentioned in this book, and you see the need for a return to some kind of precious metals standard.
Marrs also writes about the influence of the Order of Skull and Bones, Council on Foreign Relations, and why things work the way they do.

We're in need of volunteers to help out with Freedom Expo. PM one of the organizers (like me) if you'd like to help. "The Free State Project is an agreement among 20,000 pro-liberty activists to move to New Hampshire, where they will exert the fullest practical effort toward the creation of a society in which the maximum role of government is the protection of life, liberty, and property." Freedom Expo is at Trinity Parish House, Seabrook, April 27, 2013! (right next to the Post Office)

"The Underground History of American Education" by John Taylor Gatto is a good read. Obviously it's focused on education, but there's a fair amount of broader history in there too.

Read "Unintended Consequences" by John Ross. Its a great book AND the author has a firing range in a quarry.

The Ideological Origins of the American Revolution by Bernard Bailyn is a good one. Ethnic America, and nearly anything else, by Thomas Sowell is good. Sowell is one of my favorite intellectuals, anything by him is worth checking out. de Tocqueville's Democracy in America and The Americans by Daniel Boorstin are good too.

Conceived in Liberty in two volumes by Murray Rothbard. Probably some other history by him, also.
