A calender showing Porcs engaged in their everyday careers, working at their jobs, homeschooling, etc. would go a long ways to show that, for the most part, were are normal, functioning people, and would be a more positive, though, less enticing venture.
These would, probably, only sell within the organization, but, if only a fraction of us bought them it might realize a profit.
I'm guessing the image of jason standing behind a podium at Yale would be more impressive than me standing on a ladder, swinging a paintbrush....... wait a minute......I did see Jason behind a podium at Yale....looked like a kid snuck in and was playing teacher.
my apologies to Jason, for, once again, taking advantage of his youthful appearance, for a little humor.

I think Lloyd is on the right track.  I like calendar girls and all, but what would really motivate me, and I think other Porcs,  on a daily basis to get to NH as soon as possible, is images of Porcs who have made it to NH and are active.  Think: Jim, Karl, Shelley, Kat, the Michaels, etc. testifying before legislative committees, handing out leaflets, protesting with signs on pickets, getting arrested in a bookstore Wink , working their woodlots, shooting at the range, building an exotic house (geodesic dome, etc.).  Don Gorman speaking from the podium in the House chamber would be a good one.  Even a beautiful nature scene.  Oh, and who is the guy that has the computer support business near Dover?  A picture that tells the story of a successful business started after a Porc moves should be a great motivator too.

This is the stuff that reminds the calendar user of what (s)he is missing and why (s)he needs to hurry up and get to New Hampshire.  A calendar girl, is playing on fantasy, and we all know it, even as we are fantasizing.  The pictures should be of things that we can actually do, and should really be gearing up to do, once we make the move.

On the one hand, I can accept the "trivialization" argument as valid.  It is quite possible that some people might not take us as seriously if we were to put out a calendar with nudity in it.

On the other hand, a calendar of FSPers "hard at work", and emphasizing how "normal we really are"... *yawn*... would generate as much publicity as a tree falling in a forest where no one is around to hear.

Unfortunately, "out of the ordinary" and "shocking" creates a buzz, while "ordinary" and "the expected" are virtually invisible.

There are trade-offs everywhere.  I'm just suggesting that the publicity of the calendar idea might be worth it.

Actually, that's kindof what I had in mind... here are some of my ideas:

1. A photo of someone with a pair of 19th Century Colts holstered on either hip, and a finely engraved breech-loading shotgun in their hands.

2. Someone with a joint in their hands, with a policeman walking by giving him a friendly wave and a smile.

3. Someone with "indian war paint" on, with a box of "Tea" on his shoulder, tossing it over the side of a ship.

4. A pair of "first year college students" at a chalk board. One is writing out a complex chemical equation, and the other is trying to figure out 4x5, and scratching his head.  The first is, of course, homeschooled, while the latter is public schooled.

Anyway, I'm sure we could brainstorm some more.

I think this is all just a an elaborate ploy to see Amanda naked. Tongue

On the serious side...I figured someone would bring up the Ladies of Liberty calander which was done by females of the North Carolina Libertarian Party to raise money for some of their campaigns.

http://www.rachelmills.com/calendar.html

It was tastefully done and raised a decent amount of money.

See? There's a libertarian precedent for it! That should help legitimize the concept.

Well, to be fair, we'd need a male nudes calendar too  Shocked

I agree.  Who wants to look at naked women, anyway?  Smiley

So were *you* planning on posing in it?

Uh uh, not me, Kat.   But I'd buy one of the male nude calendars...  just to help the cause, of course, you understand   Grin

SeiCair, if you're serious, then find the models, get a photographer, and produce the calendar. Just make sure it is tasteful.

And anything using the FSP name/logo has to go through Evan or me before released to the public.

I was about 75% sure that this is the response I'd get.  I'll see what I can come up with.

Rest assured that whatever I'd do will be artistic and tasteful.

Nude calendar
« Reply #28 on: July 23, 2005, 08:41:08 am »

I've noticed through the years that many groups that fundraise sometimes opt to do a nude(or partially nude calendar to be more accurate! Smiley) calendar. Anyone for a Women or Men of the FSP calendar?

Perhaps they would be more inclined to do a "Bikini Shoot" or "Swimsuit"
