I'm still here, I was originaly going to be leaving on the 21st, but work has made that a no-go. I will now be leaving on the 23rd and drinking LOTS of soda to help me make up the lost two days.

Drinking lots of soda? Dude, I don't think anyone would care if someone drove you through lots of the big cities. Just walking around parts of some cities during the daytime is a risk to your life, anyway.

I just *love* it when Hank and Dagny brainstorm!

How will the soda help? Will the caffeine and sugar make you walk faster?

If everyone were rich there would be no need for government assistance. If everyone were rich all children could attend private schools. If everyone were rich, government would become superfluous. Read the free e-book at this site: http://www.scienceofgettingrich.net

Meh, I'll have a big stick. I've got a buddy to guide me through NYC, so I'm not worried about that. The only part I really fear is the walking through WV. I just keeping thinking about deliverance when I think about that state -_- I will now be leaving on the 23rd and drinking LOTS of soda to help me make up the lost two days.
How will the soda help? Will the caffeine and sugar make you walk faster? My body runs off two things: Caffeine and Justin Sane's music. The more I have of both, the faster I'll be walking

As much as I like caffeine, and soda in particular, I would not recommend it for walking long distances. Carbonated beverages for things like that are generally considered a no-no. What you're going to need a lot more than caffeine and sugar are hydration and complex carbohydrates. Caffeine and sugar can both affect the hydration of your body (caffeine actually dehydrates some), and sugar will wear you out faster (it's just simple carbohydrates, which is bad for you). I recommend either plain water or sports drinks like gatorade, and plenty of energy bars to snack on for the trip. Otherwise, you're going to burn out fast. Good information here: http://walking.about.com/od/fluids/

I've posted to several other web forums about that AP article, nice going! If you click here you can follow the response of the Net public.

Need to know the major cities Ghost will be walking through so we can start hammering their media outlets in advance.

Is there a plan to chart his progress? Will the Porcs who help him along his route be reporting to the forum? I need to know when he is going to reach CT and the route he intends to take through CT, so, I can contact the media. His passing thru CT is going to be close to the time of my move to NH, but, I'll still try to do the media thing. Lloyd

I think he's going through Baltimore also, and definitely West Virginia. I've sent this to 2 WV TV stations and 2 WV papers, but don't let me be the only one besides Amanda who's doing this: Dear folks at the Daily Mail: Got some news coming through WV I thought you might not want to miss... A man from KY is "walking to New Hampshire for freedom," and he's coming through your state. I don't know precisely when he reaches WV, though. Basically he's trying to draw attention to what he considers the lack of freedom in most states. He's doing it by walking all the way to New Hampshire, the freest state left. Here's WAVE-TV's article on it: http://www.wave3.com/Global/story.asp?S=1880914&nav=0RZFNGCATo contact the intrepid pedestrian's PR types, head to: http://www.freestateproject.org/about/for_the_press.jspThanks, Dada Orwell "49 Slave States, 1 New Hapmshire" www.FreeMe.org

Paul and I will both be in contact with Randall throughout his journey. He left this afternoon and is expected to be walking through Connecticut sometime between 6/17 and 6/20. We're sending the press release tomorrow to all the media contacts along his route. We'll post the press release here so y'all can use it & distribute it to any local media contacts you might have. Thanks for offering to help with this! We'll keep you informed.

Dada, thanks for doing this! One favor... could you not reference the WAVE-TV article? They're painting us as a bunch of crazy potheads. Randall toldme that he talked about a lot more issues than the drug reform one, and he was somewhat irritated that they honed in on drug reform with him. He felt they were attempting to smear him. He says that in the future he plans to talk about libertarianism more generally, and will avoid focusing on some of the more specific controversial issues. (Not that he will ignore those issues, but he will speak about them in general terms.) I told him that I was glad he learned that lesson about the media when he was starting out in KY rather than learning it when he crossed the border into NH. SO... the press release will be out tomorrow, and it's probably best to distribute the press release rather than sending around the "pothead article." Thanks.
